This international project is led by the Government of Navarra, in collaboration with the University of Lapland, the University of Navarra, Funky Citizens (Romania), and the Institute of Constructive Journalism of Navarra.

INMERS.
The main objective is to improve media literacy among people over 65 years old in rural areas of Lapland, Transylvania, and Navarra.

To achieve this, media literacy workshops will be conducted for this target group, along with training sessions to prepare future facilitators. Additionally, through a co-creation process, a media literacy training guide will be developed. Action plans will also be designed to implement initiatives that will help expand the project to other regions in Europe. The educational materials and training activities will consider the sociolinguistic characteristics of each territory.

OBJECTIVES

The overall objective is to strengthen media literacy, critical thinking, and digital autonomy among rural adults aged 65 and over in rural areas of Lapland, Transylvania and Navarre, thereby contributing to democratic resilience and social inclusion.

The specific objectives to be highlighted in this project are:

1- Conduct a regional diagnosis of media literacy needs.

2- Facilitate cross border exchange of knowledge and best practices.

3- Develop inclusive, accessible, and age appropriate training materials.
4- Implement pilot media literacy interventions in Spain, Finland, and Romania.
5- Co create a training guide for educators and facilitators.
6- Train local facilitators to ensure regional sustainability.
7- Raise awareness on the intersection of age, territory, and language.
8- Evaluate the impact and effectiveness of the interventions.
9- Ensure broad dissemination and support replicability across Europe.

WORK PLAN AND WORK PACKAGES

INMERS is structured into five interconnected Work Packages (WPs):

WP1 Project Management and Coordination: overall project management, financial control, risk management, and communication within the consortium

To ensure effective project management through:

      • A Steering Committee for strategic oversight
      • Financial coordination and administration
      • Risk management tools and procedures
      • Reporting to the European Commission
      • Ensuring efficient internal communication

WP2 Diagnosis and study of needs and solutions for media literacy among seniors in rural areas

Identify media literacy needs among older adults in rural areas. Key outputs:

      • A diagnostic matrix
      • A common survey model applied across regions
      • Regional diagnosis reports
      • A comparative analysis of Spain, Finland, and Romania
      • Exchange of knowledge and best practices in the field of media literacy

WP3 Cocreation path for a Media Literacy Guide

Develop tailored media literacy training adapted to older adults:

      • A methodological framework
      • Training modules focusing on practical skills
      • Guidelines for trainers
      • Adaptation to multilingual rural contexts

Measure impact and effectiveness of the interventions:

      • A baseline assessment of participants
      • Evaluation of training materials
